Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 491, pseudogene (RN7SL491P) is a human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene family, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). The canonical 7SL RNA plays a crucial role as a scaffold in the SRP ribonucleoprotein complex, which mediates the targeting of newly synthesized proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane[3][5]. However, RN7SL491P is annotated as a pseudogene, meaning it does not encode a functional RNA molecule and is thought to lack biological activity or protein-coding potential[1][4]. Unlike functional 7SL RNA, RN7SL491P does not participate in signal recognition, protein translocation, or established cellular pathways. It is not considered a therapeutic target, nor does it have known drug interactions, disease roles, or biomarker applications. Note: Pseudogenes similar to RN7SL491P can, in some genomic contexts, generate noncoding RNAs that function as regulatory sponges or compete for microRNAs, but there is no specific evidence that RN7SL491P possesses such activity[2].
