RN7SL495P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 495, pseudogene) is a processed pseudogene related to the 7SL RNA, the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for targeting secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotes[1][3][7][8]. As a pseudogene, RN7SL495P is a non-functional, likely non-expressed genomic sequence that arose by reverse transcription of the parent 7SL RNA and subsequent integration into the DNA[3][6][7][8]. The vast majority of 7SL-derived loci in the human genome are classified as pseudogenes, displaying a range of truncated structures, and are not considered active genetic elements[3][7]. RN7SL495P is not considered a drug target, does not encode a functional product, and there is no evidence linking it to disease or biomarker development[6][8]. A small minority of pseudogenes elsewhere are known to act as regulatory RNA decoys (ceRNAs), but no evidence supports such a function for RN7SL495P[4].
