Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 496, pseudogene (RN7SL496P) is a human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene family, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) involved in targeting proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum. Hundreds of such 7SL RNA-like pseudogenes are dispersed in the genome and arise from the reverse transcription and integration of 7SL RNA sequences. These pseudogenes are typically non-functional in terms of protein-coding and are not known to play a direct biological or therapeutic role. Unlike the canonical 7SL RNA gene, RN7SL496P is a truncated, likely non-expressed copy, with no established function, molecular interactions, or disease associations in current knowledge.
