RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 536, pseudogene (RN7SL536P) is classified as a pseudogene—a genomic sequence similar to known functional genes but is not expressed as a functional product[4][6]. It is a member of the 7SL RNA pseudogene family, which originated from reverse transcription and integration of 7SL RNA sequences into the genome without conferring protein-coding or known regulatory functions[6]. While 7SL RNA itself is an essential non-coding RNA forming the backbone of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which regulates protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum[3][5], pseudogenes derived from 7SL RNA, such as RN7SL536P, do not participate directly in SRP function and are generally considered functionally inert DNA elements[1][4][6]. The RN7SL pseudogene family is characterized by significant sequence heterogeneity and truncation, with most loci not expressed or associated with detectable cellular function in humans[6].
