Overview

RN7SL538P is a non-coding pseudogene derived from the 7SL SRP RNA gene, found in human genomic DNA at locus 70,345,275–70,345,578 (GRCh37)[4]. The functional 7SL RNA is a critical architectural and regulatory RNA within the signal recognition particle (SRP), necessary for protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum during translation[1][3]. However, the "pseudogene" designation means RN7SL538P is a truncated, often non-functional relic that arose by retrotransposition – a process where RNA molecules are reverse-transcribed and inserted back into the genome[5]. RN7SL pseudogenes do not encode active RNAs or proteins, possess no known cellular function, and are not therapeutic targets. No drugs, mechanisms of action, or safety issues are associated with RN7SL538P.
