RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 555, pseudogene (RN7SL555P) is a human genomic sequence classified as a pseudogene of the 7SL RNA family[2][1][5][6]. Pseudogenes are non-functional genomic elements that arise from reverse transcription and integration of RNA sequences into DNA. Unlike the functional 7SL RNA gene (which encodes an essential part of the signal recognition particle for ER-targeted protein translation)[4], RN7SL555P is a truncated, non-coding sequence, lacking known transcriptional activity and biological function[5][6]. It exists as part of the large family of "7SL RNA-like" sequences scattered throughout human DNA; the majority are pseudogenes generated by retrotransposition events, often truncated at various points along the sequence[5][6]. These pseudogenes, including RN7SL555P, are not involved in any known physiological or disease processes, nor do they encode proteins or functional RNA molecules[1][2][5][6].
