RN7SL557P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Noncoding RNA-related pseudogene
01

Overview

RN7SL557P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 557, pseudogene) is a noncoding pseudogene in the human genome. It is related to the 7SL RNA, the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex, which is essential for co-translational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum. However, RN7SL557P itself is a nonfunctional segment likely derived from reverse transcription and insertion of 7SL RNA into the genome. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL557P may occasionally have regulatory effects, such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs or producing small interfering RNAs, but there is no evidence RN7SL557P has such a function. Most 7SL-related pseudogenes are considered nonfunctional genetic elements and are not implicated as direct disease drivers or therapeutic targets.

Mechanism of action

None. As RN7SL557P is a noncoding pseudogene, there is no mechanism of action related to pharmacological intervention

03

Biological functions

None confirmed for RN7SL557P specifically. More generally, some pseudogenes can act as miRNA sponges, generate small regulatory RNAs, or influence epigenetic regulation, typically through sequence similarity or transcriptional activity, but no direct function is established for RN7SL557P
04

Disease associations

None established for RN7SL557P specifically. Some pseudogenes are implicated in gene regulation and may influence diseases via regulatory effects, but there are no reports of a disease association for RN7SL557P
