Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 560, pseudogene (RN7SL560P) is a pseudogene related to the functional 7SL RNA, a structural RNA that is the central RNA component of the eukaryotic signal recognition particle (SRP), essential for the cotranslational targeting of secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[1][3][6]. However, RN7SL560P is a pseudogene, meaning it is a non-functional, often truncated or mutated copy of the parental 7SL RNA gene, and does not produce functional RNA or protein[6]. The vast majority of 7SL RNA pseudogenes in the human genome are believed to have no direct biological activity, though pseudogenes in general can sometimes act as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or miRNA sponges, influencing gene regulation indirectly[2]. There is no evidence or literature suggesting that RN7SL560P serves as a therapeutic target or is directly linked to disease mechanisms. Its main relevance is as a genomic relic of retrotransposition processes and molecular evolution.
