Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 568, pseudogene (RN7SL568P) is a human pseudogene corresponding to a non-functional, truncated copy of the 7SL RNA gene[4][1][8]. The 7SL RNA is a critical RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which functions in directing newly synthesized proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane[5]. In the human genome, hundreds of 7SL RNA-like sequences exist, but the majority—including RN7SL568P—are pseudogenes generated by the retrotransposition or reverse transcription of the 7SL RNA and are incapable of producing functional SRP RNA or protein[6][7][1]. These pseudogenes typically do not have known coding capacity, regulator activity, disease association, or therapeutic targeting potential, and there are no known drugs or biomarker uses related to RN7SL568P specifically[1][8]. The approved symbol and full name are standardized by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee[4]. As a pseudogene, RN7SL568P does not encode a functional protein or RNA and is considered a genomic remnant rather than an active molecular target[1][4][6]. Functional 7SL RNA contributes to the SRP complex and cotranslational protein targeting[5], but RN7SL568P and similar pseudogenes lack the sequence integrity for such roles[7]. While some pseudogenes modulate gene expression or participate in regulatory RNA networks, RN7SL568P has no reported such functions in available resources[1][7][8].
