Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 583, pseudogene (RN7SL583P) is a human pseudogene related to the 7SL RNA, which is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). Pseudogenes like RN7SL583P represent non-functional copies of the 7SL RNA gene that arose through the reverse transcription of RNA and its integration into genomic DNA. These elements are typically truncated and not expressed, and unlike the functional 7SL RNA gene (which plays a critical role in protein targeting to membranes), RN7SL583P lacks biological activity and is not implicated in normal or pathological cellular processes. It is not considered a therapeutic target or biomarker, nor does it have any known drug interactions or disease associations. The human genome contains hundreds of such 7SL pseudogene sequences, most of which do not encode active molecules and are classified as genomic relics. RN7SL583P is a member of a large family of 7SL RNA-derived pseudogenes; only a handful of 7SL RNA gene loci in the human genome are functional, while the rest, such as RN7SL583P, are considered non-functional relics with high sequence variability and no protein-coding or regulatory function. The canonical 7SL RNA is an essential RNA component of the signal recognition particle, but pseudogenes like RN7SL583P do not contribute to the SRP pathway or other cellular mechanisms. There is no evidence in curated databases that RN7SL583P is misnamed, misclassified, or otherwise incorrect in its current designation; it is accurately described as a non-functional pseudogene derivative of the 7SL RNA gene.
