Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 587, pseudogene (RN7SL587P) is a processed pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). The SRP is essential for targeting proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells. RN7SL pseudogenes are widespread throughout the human genome and are generally considered non-functional genetic elements resulting from reverse transcription and reintegration of RNA into DNA. These pseudogenes do not encode functional RNA or proteins and are distinguished from functional 7SL RNA genes. While some pseudogenes may exert regulatory effects as non-coding RNAs (such as miRNA sponges), there is no specific evidence that RN7SL587P serves any functional role or is associated with human disease or drug interactions.

Biological functions

Most pseudogenes do not have functional roles; rare pseudogenes can act as non-coding regulatory RNAs, such as microRNA sponges or competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), but specific roles for RN7SL587P have not been described
04

Disease associations

No established disease associations or roles for RN7SL587P specificallyGeneral pseudogene research suggests possible regulatory involvement in cancer and other diseases for some pseudogenes, but not for RN7SL587P directly
