RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 598, pseudogene (RN7SL598P) is a processed pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene family. The 7SL RNA is a component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), an essential ribonucleoprotein complex involved in co-translational targeting of proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotes. However, RN7SL598P is not a functional gene; as a pseudogene, it does not produce functional RNA or protein, and exhibits sequence similarity to the parent 7SL RNA gene but lacks biological activity due to mutations or truncation. There are hundreds of such 7SL-like pseudogenes dispersed throughout the human genome, most of which are byproducts of reverse transcription and insertion events. No direct biological functions, disease associations, or drug interactions have been assigned to this specific pseudogene.
