RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 600, pseudogene (RN7SL600P), is a pseudogene that is related to the functional 7SL RNA gene. The 7SL RNA is a noncoding RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex, which is essential for co-translational targeting of secreted and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells[3][1]. However, RN7SL600P itself is a pseudogene—a DNA sequence resembling a gene but typically nonfunctional due to mutations, truncations, or lack of expression—and does not encode an active RNA product or protein[2][5]. According to genomic analyses, there are hundreds of 7SL-like pseudogenes distributed in the human genome. These are byproducts of retrotransposition and other genomic events, often truncated at the 5' and/or 3' ends, and they do not contribute to the canonical SRP function or have known direct biological or disease associations[5]. They are generally considered non-functional genomic elements but may occasionally be transcribed; there is no evidence suggesting that RN7SL600P is a therapeutic or pharmacological target, nor is it involved in drug responses, disease roles, or considered as a biomarker. If you are interested in the functional 7SL RNA, it is a structural noncoding RNA playing a central role in protein secretion by forming the core of the SRP. Pseudogenes like RN7SL600P are primarily of genetic and evolutionary interest[1][5].
