Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 621, pseudogene (RN7SL621P) is a human pseudogene corresponding to a nonfunctional copy of the 7SL RNA gene, which encodes the RNA backbone of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex. The 7SL RNA is a conserved non-coding RNA critical for directing newly synthesized proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells. As a pseudogene, RN7SL621P is generally not transcribed into a functional RNA, nor is it known to encode any protein or play a direct biological role. No evidence supports its function as a therapeutic target, nor its clinical role as a biomarker or drug-interacting molecule. However, pseudogenes can sometimes regulate gene expression at the RNA level in a sequence-dependent manner, but there is no specific evidence for this for RN7SL621P.

Biological functions

None known for the pseudogene itselfParental 7SL RNA is involved in signal recognition particle (SRP)-mediated protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum
03

Disease associations

Pseudogenes in general can act as competing endogenous RNAs or microRNA sponges in cancer/other disease, but there is no direct evidence for RN7SL621P itself
