RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 647, pseudogene (RN7SL647P) is a human processed pseudogene related to the gene encoding 7SL RNA, a component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which is important for cotranslational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum[1][5][7][8][12]. This pseudogene represents a non-functional, truncated, or mutated copy of 7SL RNA, dispersed in the genome as a result of retrotransposition events[5][7][9]. The overwhelming majority of 7SL-related sequences in human DNA are pseudogenes, lacking protein-coding potential and canonical biological activity[5][9]. While pseudogenes may sometimes produce regulatory non-coding RNAs, the specific RN7SL647P locus is not known to serve as a therapeutic target or biomarker, nor does it have established functional or disease associations[1][7]. Its presence is mainly of genomic interest and reflects the evolutionary remnants of functional 7SL RNA genes[5][9][12]. The parent molecule, 7SL RNA, is essential to the signal recognition particle complex[3][10], but RN7SL647P itself is not transcribed or translated into a functional product[1][8][12]. No evidence links this pseudogene to any molecular pathology or therapeutic intervention. The sheer abundance and diversity of 7SL pseudogenes highlight common retrotranspositional processes in genome evolution[5][7][9].
