Target
RN7SL655P
Molecular classification
Other (non-coding RNA pseudogene)

Overview

RN7SL655P is a pseudogene formed from the duplication and integration of sequences derived from the 7SL RNA gene. The 7SL RNA encodes the RNA portion of the signal recognition particle, which is involved in the co-translational translocation of proteins across the endoplasmic reticulum membrane[3][4][5][6]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL655P are truncated or mutated copies of the ancestral gene lacking biological activity, do not code for functional RNAs, and are generally not expressed[4][5][6]. Most such pseudogenes are present in the genome as molecular fossils resulting from reverse transcription events and do not participate in cellular signaling, transformation, or therapeutic interactions[4][5][6].
