Target
RN7SL668P
Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene, non-coding RNA family)

Overview

RN7SL668P is a pseudogene in Homo sapiens, consisting of a genomic sequence that resembles the functional RNA 7SL component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). The 7SL RNA itself is a highly conserved noncoding RNA that forms the core of the SRP complex, controlling cotranslational targeting of nascent proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL668P are generally non-functional remnants thought to arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition, lacking the capability to produce a functional RNA or protein. While other pseudogenes can have roles in gene regulation, as competitive endogenous RNAs, antisense regulators, or sources of regulatory small RNAs, RN7SL668P itself has not been directly implicated in these processes nor in human disease or therapy.

Biological functions

Potential post-transcriptional regulation via RNA-based mechanisms (by analogy to other pseudogenes; RN7SL668P itself is not characterized)Genomic relic with sequence similarity to functional 7SL RNA

Disease associations

Other (No direct, well-characterized involvement in disease for RN7SL668P; some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression and be linked to disease, but no evidence for RN7SL668P specifically)
