Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 677, pseudogene (RN7SL677P) is a non-functional pseudogene related to the functional 7SL RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), a complex essential for targeting proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[1][4][5][7]. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL677P are noncoding DNA sequences that arise from genomic duplication or reverse transcription of a functional gene, but accumulate mutations rendering them nonfunctional—in this case, unable to contribute to SRP activity, and not known to be transcribed or translated at levels with biological consequence[4][5][7]. There is no evidence supporting a role for RN7SL677P in disease, signaling, or as a drug target, and it is not considered relevant for therapeutics or biomarker applications. Its primary relevance is for genomic annotation and the study of genome evolution and pseudogene formation[4][7]. The functional 7SL RNA is architectural and essential for SRP-mediated targeting of proteins, but most 7SL pseudogenes, including RN7SL677P, are truncated, mutated copies generated by reverse flow of information, and are not believed to serve either structural or regulatory roles[5][7]. Pseudogenes can occasionally interfere with genetic studies through PCR bias or misannotation, but RN7SL677P itself is not associated with such issues in the literature[4]. RN7SL677P is a non-functional pseudogene; it is not a drug target or of direct clinical, mechanistic, or therapeutic relevance.
