RN7SL683P is a human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA, a non-coding RNA that is part of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex. The 7SL RNA guides the targeting of nascent proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in cells[3][5]. In contrast, RN7SL683P is a non-functional, truncated or rearranged genomic copy that does not encode a protein or an active RNA component[6]. Human genome contains hundreds of such 7SL RNA-like sequences, most of which are pseudogenes formed by the integration of reverse-transcribed RNA into DNA. While some pseudogenes in other contexts can regulate gene expression indirectly (acting as microRNA sponges or RNA-binding protein competitors)[4], there is no current evidence for regulatory or disease-related function for RN7SL683P itself.
