Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 702, pseudogene (RN7SL702P) is a human genomic pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA, a key RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex. Pseudogenes like RN7SL702P are DNA sequences similar to known genes but are generally considered non-functional; they do not encode proteins and are thought to arise from either duplication or retrotransposition events. The large majority of 7SL RNA–like sequences in the human genome are pseudogenes, with only a handful serving as functional 7SL RNA genes. RN7SL702P may be transcribed, but there is no evidence that it functions as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other canonical therapeutic target[1][6][7][8]. Some pseudogenes have been observed to play a role as non-coding RNAs impacting gene regulation (e.g., by acting as miRNA sponges or decoys), but such a function is not established for this specific pseudogene[4][5].

03

Biological functions

Other (pseudogene RNAs have no protein or direct regulatory function; some pseudogenes may act as competitive endogenous RNAs, but this is not established for RN7SL702P specifically)
04

Disease associations

Other (general pseudogene functions in gene regulation and possible roles in disease have been proposed for some, but RN7SL702P itself has no validated disease role)
