Overview

RN7SL708P is a human pseudogene resulting from the reverse transcription and genomic insertion of 7SL RNA sequences[5]. The functional 7SL RNA gene encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle, an essential ribonucleoprotein complex that mediates the targeting and translocation of proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells[4]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL708P are truncated, mutated, or otherwise nonfunctional copies of the original gene and do not produce functional RNA. Most 7SL pseudogenes are vestigial genetic elements without known physiological or pathological roles[5]. They are not considered targets for drugs, diagnostics, or therapeutic intervention. If a functional or disease-relevant 7SL RNA (or SRP RNA) target is required, refer to the canonical "Signal recognition particle RNA" (7SL RNA), not to the pseudogene RN7SL708P[1][3][4][5].
