Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 716, pseudogene (RN7SL716P) is one of hundreds of pseudogenes in the human genome derived from the 7SL RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). The 7SL RNA is a noncoding RNA essential for cotranslational targeting of proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum, but RN7SL716P is a nonfunctional, truncated, or otherwise disabled copy that arose through the reverse transcription of 7SL RNA back into DNA and its subsequent integration into the genome[5][6]. These pseudogenes are widespread and may be truncated at either end or contain sequence mutations rendering them incapable of producing a functional RNA molecule[4][5]. They are not transcribed into functional RNA, do not assemble into the SRP complex, and do not participate in any cellular signaling or protein synthesis pathways[4][6]. There is no evidence that RN7SL716P acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or is targeted by drugs, nor is it used as a clinical biomarker or implicated in any disease mechanism. Pseudogenes like this may occasionally be transcribed at low levels, but such transcripts are generally considered nonfunctional, and the majority have no known biological role[4]. In sum, RN7SL716P is a nonfunctional pseudogene related to the 7SL RNA, not a therapeutic target or functional receptor, and has no translational, biomedical, or clinical relevance at this time[4][5][6].
