Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 725, pseudogene (RN7SL725P) is a *processed pseudogene* in the human genome, highly similar to the functional 7SL RNA gene but lacking protein-coding or regulatory activity due to truncations and mutations[1][5]. The parental 7SL RNA is an essential non-coding RNA of the Signal Recognition Particle, involved in targeting secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells[3][7][9]. The genome contains hundreds of 7SL-like pseudogenes generated by reverse transcription and sequence integration, but only a small number encode functional RNAs[5]. RN7SL725P and similar pseudogenes are generally transcriptionally inactive or produce nonfunctional RNA fragments[1][8]. Some processed pseudogenes may theoretically regulate parental gene expression through ceRNA/miRNA sponge mechanisms, but there is no evidence that RN7SL725P is active in this way[4].

Biological functions

No direct biological function; pseudogenes are generally considered nonfunctional remnants of ancestral genesSome pseudogene transcripts may act as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or miRNA sponges, but this function is not specific or validated for RN7SL725P
03

Disease associations

None establishedSome pseudogenes have been implicated in cancer and gene regulation, but no evidence for RN7SL725P specifically
