Overview

RN7SL756P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 756, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene classified as miscellaneous non-coding RNA, located on chromosome 17[1]. It is one of many pseudogenes derived from the 7SL RNA gene, the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which plays a key role in protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane in eukaryotes[3][5]. However, as a pseudogene, RN7SL756P is presumed non-functional: it does not code for a functional RNA or protein product[1][5]. Most 7SL-derived pseudogenes are generated by reverse transcription and integration events, resulting in truncated and/or nonfunctional versions of the parental RNA[5]. While some pseudogenes in general can play regulatory roles in gene expression—such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or miRNA sponges—there is no evidence that RN7SL756P specifically plays such a role[4][6]. There are no known drugs targeting pseudogenes such as RN7SL756P, and it is not considered a therapeutic target.
