RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 766, pseudogene (RN7SL766P) is a human pseudogene belonging to the 7SL RNA family[1]. The 7SL RNA encodes a key RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), an essential ribonucleoprotein involved in directing newly synthesized secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[5]. However, RN7SL766P itself is a pseudogene, meaning it is a nonfunctional, typically noncoding sequence derived from an ancestral 7SL RNA gene that has lost its ability to produce functional RNA[1][3][7]. The majority of 7SL-related sequences in the human genome are such pseudogenes rather than functional genes[3][7]. There is no evidence that RN7SL766P is expressed at detectable levels or that it encodes a functional transcript or protein[1][3][7]. In general, some pseudogenes may modulate gene regulation through miRNA titration or other non-coding RNA mechanisms, but these phenomena are not established for RN7SL766P specifically[4][6]. RN7SL766P is not considered a therapeutic target and is not implicated as a disease gene, drug target, or biomarker.
