Overview

RN7SL771P is a human pseudogene related to the 7SL RNA, which is a structural and functional RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). Unlike the canonical 7SL RNA gene, RN7SL771P does not code for a functional RNA incorporated into the SRP complex and does not produce a protein product. Pseudogenes like RN7SL771P are generated when functional RNA genes (such as 7SL) are reverse transcribed and inserted back into the genome, often in a truncated or mutated form that renders them nonfunctional. The functional 7SL RNA plays an architectural and regulatory role in the SRP, which is fundamental to targeting proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells. However, RN7SL771P, by definition as a pseudogene, does not participate in this pathway. Most human genomes harbor hundreds of 7SL pseudogenes scattered throughout the genome, and there is no evidence linking RN7SL771P to any disease, drug interaction, or biomarker utility.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None established (as a pseudogene, RN7SL771P is not known to have a direct biological function in protein coding or signal transduction)
04

Disease associations

None established for RN7SL771P itself. In general, certain pseudogenes may act as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), influencing the regulation of their parental genes and potentially impacting cancer and other diseases through such mechanisms, but no such role is annotated for RN7SL771P.
