Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 791, pseudogene (RN7SL791P) is a member of the large family of 7SL RNA pseudogenes. The functional 7SL RNA is a key component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which plays a fundamental role in directing secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells[3]. Pseudogenes such as RN7SL791P are non-functional genomic sequences that closely resemble their parental gene—in this case, the functional 7SL RNA—due to past duplication, retrotransposition, or recombination events[5][6][7][9][10]. The vast majority of the hundreds of 7SL-like sequences in the human genome are truncated, non-expressed, and lack known protein-coding or regulatory function[5][6][7][9]. Currently, this particular pseudogene is not considered a therapeutic target, is not associated with known drugs, biological mechanisms, or disease states, and does not serve as a biomarker.
