Overview

RN7SL810P is a pseudogene that encodes a nonfunctional, truncated homolog of the 7SL RNA, which is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). SRP is an essential ribonucleoprotein that mediates the co-translational targeting of secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells[1][3][4][5]. However, the RN7SL810P pseudogene does not produce a functional RNA and is not expressed or involved in cellular pathways; it is part of a large number of dispersed, nonfunctional SRP RNA-derived sequences throughout the human genome[1][3][4][5]. Key context: - The functional gene family, such as RN7SL1, encodes the actual 7SL RNA used in the signal recognition particle complex[6]. - The vast majority of SRP RNA-related sequences in the human genome are pseudogenes, reverse-transcribed and integrated into DNA, and do not code for functional products[3][4][5]. - Such pseudogenes are generally considered "molecular fossils" without biological activity or roles as drug targets, biomarkers, or therapeutic receptors[3][4][5]. - There are no known drugs, mechanisms of action, or disease associations for this pseudogene[1][3].
