RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 817, pseudogene (RN7SL817P)

Target
RN7SL817P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA-derived pseudogene
01

Overview

RN7SL817P is a processed pseudogene corresponding to the 7SL RNA, a non-coding RNA that forms part of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which is involved in directing proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in cells[1]. Unlike its functional parent 7SL RNA, RN7SL817P is nonfunctional; it does not produce a mature RNA or protein product and is considered genetically inert[6][8]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL817P typically arise through reverse transcription and integration of RNA sequences back into the genome, resulting in truncated, mutated, or non-expressed genomic loci[3][8]. Though a handful of pseudogenes have regulatory or disease roles, there is no literature supporting a specific biological or clinical role for RN7SL817P.
