Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 818, pseudogene (RN7SL818P) is a noncoding, human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA gene, which itself encodes the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP)[1][6][7]. The 7SL RNA is an essential structural and functional part of the SRP complex, responsible for targeting proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in the cytoplasm[3][5]. However, RN7SL818P is part of a large family of 7SL pseudogenes found throughout the human genome. These pseudogenes are characterized by sequence homology to the functional 7SL gene but lack coding potential and are not believed to be expressed or to serve any regulatory or structural cellular function as a canonical gene[7]. While some pseudogenes of other genes have been shown to act as regulatory RNA elements in cancer and other diseases through microRNA sequestration or as competing endogenous RNAs[4], there is currently no evidence that RN7SL818P has such a function, nor does it serve as a biomarker or drug target.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None known; pseudogenes are typically transcriptionally inactive and do not encode functional products[1][6][7]
04

Disease associations

None known specific to RN7SL818P; although some pseudogenes influence gene regulation in cancer and other diseases, there is no evidence or report showing RN7SL818P involvement in disease[4][6]
