Overview

**RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 834, pseudogene (RN7SL834P)** is a non-coding RNA pseudogene that is homologous to the functional 7SL RNA, a critical RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP) complex. Functional 7SL RNA plays a central role in co-translational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum, mediating the halting and subsequent translocation of ribosome-synthesized proteins[1][5]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL834P are nonfunctional, truncated, or mutated copies of the original gene that have been integrated back into the genome, usually via retrotransposition, and most do not produce a functional transcript or protein product[6][7][8]. There are several hundred 7SL RNA-like sequences in the human genome, but almost all are pseudogenes, with only a few encoding functional 7SL RNA[7]. While canonical 7SL RNA participates in key cellular processes such as protein sorting and possibly stress response, pseudogenes such as RN7SL834P typically lack biological function, though there is emerging evidence that some pseudogenes may play a regulatory role through RNA-mediated mechanisms in some pathological contexts (such as cancer), but this is not established for RN7SL834P[3][4].
