Overview

RN7SL837P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 837, pseudogene) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome, representing a nonfunctional, non-coding RNA sequence related to the functional 7SL RNA. 7SL RNA is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), involved in protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum; however, the RN7SL837P locus is a truncated or otherwise nonfunctional copy generated through reverse transcription of RNA back into DNA, typical of many 7SL pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome[4][6][7]. It does not code for a functional molecule and is therefore not considered a therapeutic target, enzyme, transporter, or receptor. There are hundreds of 7SL pseudogenes in the human genome, most of which have accumulated mutations that prevent any protein-coding or significant regulatory activity[6][4][3]. These sequences typically do not have direct implications for human disease or drug interactions, but in rare cases, some pseudogene RNAs can act as regulatory elements; there is no evidence that RN7SL837P serves such a function.
