RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 838, pseudogene (RN7SL838P)

Target
RN7SL838P
Molecular classification
Other, Pseudogene, non-coding RNA, 7SL RNA family
01

Overview

RN7SL838P is a human pseudogene derived from the 7SL RNA, a component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which normally guides the cotranslational targeting of secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotes. RN7SL838P is one of many 7SL-derived pseudogenes dispersed throughout the human genome, resulting from the insertion of reverse-transcribed 7SL RNA sequences into genomic DNA. Like other pseudogenes, RN7SL838P is considered nonfunctional: it does not encode a protein or a functional RNA and lacks regulatory elements required for significant biological activity. There is no evidence supporting a therapeutic or disease role for this pseudogene, nor is it considered a target for drug development, biomarker studies, or implicated in known safety concerns.
