Molecular classification

Overview

RN7SL843P is a human pseudogene identified as a truncated, nonfunctional copy of the 7SL RNA gene, which is the essential RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP). SRP functions in protein targeting during cotranslational translocation, but RN7SL843P does not express a functional RNA or protein. Nearly all sequences described as "cytoplasmic 843, pseudogene" are classified as processed pseudogenes, originating from reverse transcription and reintegration events, and do not possess the regulatory sequences or structural integrity required for biological activity[1][4][6]. There are hundreds of similar 7SL RNA pseudogenes in the human genome, but very few retain expression or function. Pseudogenes can occasionally participate in gene conversion or be involved in sequence regulation, but there is no evidence RN7SL843P itself acts in these roles[4][6].
