RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 856, pseudogene (RN7SL856P) is a human pseudogene derived from the sequence of the functional 7SL RNA gene. The canonical 7SL RNA is an essential structural and enzymatic RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), which mediates co-translational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum[3][5][7]. However, RN7SL856P, like most 7SL-derived pseudogenes, is a non-functional sequence: it is generally not transcribed into a functional product, does not contribute to SRP activity, and does not participate in canonical biological or disease processes. Pseudogene sequences such as RN7SL856P are typically the result of retrotransposition or genomic rearrangement and may occur in hundreds of copies throughout the genome, largely without biological effect. While some pseudogenes in other families may act as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) in gene regulation or produce small regulatory RNAs, there is no evidence that RN7SL856P plays any such role[5][6].
