Overview

RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 862, pseudogene (RN7SL862P) is a **pseudogene**—a nonfunctional genomic sequence similar to the gene encoding 7SL RNA, which is part of the signal recognition particle (SRP) ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for targeting specific proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum during translation[1][9]. However, as a pseudogene, RN7SL862P does not produce a functional RNA or protein product and lacks known biological activity. The human genome contains hundreds of 7SL RNA–derived pseudogenes, most of which are truncated and generated by integration of reverse-transcribed RNA copies back into the genome[5][7][10]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL862P are generally not considered therapeutic targets, but their transcripts can in rare cases act as regulatory RNAs; current evidence does not support any clinical or functional significance for RN7SL862P itself[6][9].
