Overview

RN7SL98P (RNA, 7SL, cytoplasmic 98, pseudogene) is a pseudogene derived from 7SL RNA, which is the RNA component of the signal recognition particle (SRP), a ribonucleoprotein that mediates the targeting of secretory proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum[5][6][8]. Pseudogenes like RN7SL98P are non-functional copies or fragments of genes; they lack protein-coding potential and typically do not produce a functional product[6][8]. Most 7SL RNA pseudogenes, including RN7SL98P, arise from the reverse transcription and integration of 7SL RNA sequences back into the genome, and, as such, are considered transcriptionally inactive and lack biological or therapeutic relevance[3][8]. There is no evidence linking RN7SL98P to disease, drug interaction, or established utility as a biomarker, and it is not recognized as a therapeutic target. Key context: - The parent molecule for all 7SL pseudogenes (including RN7SL98P) is functional 7SL RNA, which forms part of the SRP complex that is vital for protein targeting to the ER, but pseudogenes themselves do not retain this function[1][5][8]. - Pseudogenes represent genomic relics and are not typically linked to direct biological activity or disease mechanisms[6][8]. - RN7SL98P is not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any classical drug target class. In summary, RN7SL98P is a non-functional pseudogene with no known biological function or therapeutic relevance.
