Overview

RNA, Ro-associated Y4 pseudogene 10 (RNY4P10) is a heavily transcribed non-coding RNA pseudogene homologous to the canonical RNY4 Y RNA. While RNY4P10 lacks protein-coding potential and definitive biological function, transcripts from this and related pseudogenes are highly similar to functional RNY4 and can be detected in human plasma and exosomes. Y RNAs support DNA replication and are involved in stabilizing RNA-protein complexes in the nucleus. Elevated levels of Y RNA fragments, which may derive from RNY4, RNY4P10, and other homologous loci, have been reported in the plasma and exosomes of cancer patients, suggesting these molecules (taken collectively) may serve as potential biomarkers for tumor staging and aggressiveness, although the specific contribution of RNY4P10 itself remains undefined.

Biological functions

No demonstrated direct biological function for RNY4P10 itselfCan act as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) (general pseudogene function)Can act as antisense RNAs (general pseudogene function)Can act as small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) (general pseudogene function)
03

Disease associations

No direct disease role demonstrated for RNY4P10 itselfParent gene RNY4 (and related pseudogenes) are studied as potential cancer biomarkers
04

Biomarkers

Fragments corresponding to the parent RNY4 gene (and similar sequences from pseudogenes such as RNY4P10) detected at higher levels in exosomes from the plasma of cancer patientsPotential liquid biopsy biomarker for disease aggressiveness in cancers (e.g., ALCL)Biomarker role attributed mainly to the functional RNY4 and fragments indistinguishable from its pseudogenes, not specifically to RNY4P10 in isolation
