Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, Ro-associated Y4 pseudogene 23 (RNY4P23)

Target
RNY4P23
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, non-coding RNA, Y RNA family
01

Overview

RNY4 pseudogene 23 (RNY4P23) is a genomic sequence classified as a non-coding RNA pseudogene and part of the Y RNA family. Y RNAs, including RNY4, are small non-coding RNAs that associate with the Ro60 ribonucleoprotein complex and play roles in DNA replication, RNA quality control, and have been implicated in immune response and cancer biology. Pseudogenes like RNY4P23 are generally regarded as non-functional gene relics; however, some may have regulatory roles through interaction with parental gene expression or involvement in RNA networks. There is currently no evidence that RNY4P23 itself is functionally relevant as a direct therapeutic target or biomarker; research focuses primarily on the parent gene RNY4 for potential implications in cancer diagnosis and progression, notably Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma and other malignancies.

Mechanism of action

None known.

03

Biological functions

Pseudogenes generally do not encode functional products; their biological functions may include regulation of parental gene expression or acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) but no direct, experimentally confirmed function is assigned to RNY4P23 currently.
04

Disease associations

No direct disease role identified for RNY4P23; most research and biomarker associations refer to the parent gene RNY4, not the pseudogene. RNY4 itself is investigated for roles in cancer as exosomal RNA, but not specifically the pseudogene RNY4P23.
05

Safety considerations

None applicable; as a pseudogene and non-target, there are no specific therapeutic safety concerns.
06

Biomarkers

No validated biomarker role for RNY4P23; RNY4 (the functional Y RNA) is under investigation as a liquid biopsy biomarker for certain cancers, but not its pseudogene.
