RNA, Ro-associated Y4 pseudogene 28 (RNY4P28) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 13 (chr13:60187738-60187830, hg38)[1]. It is categorized as a non-coding RNA pseudogene, specifically part of the Y RNA family. Y RNAs are small, evolutionarily conserved non-coding RNAs involved in RNA quality control, DNA replication initiation, and immune responses as components of Ro60 ribonucleoprotein complexes, but RNY4P28 does not code for a functional RNA or protein[1][3][4]. While the parent gene RNY4 and its related pseudogene fragments may appear in extracellular vesicles and exosomes and have been investigated as potential cancer biomarkers, there is no evidence that RNY4P28 itself acts as a direct therapeutic target or is functionally active in disease processes[2][3][4]. The true biological role, if any, of RNY4P28 remains to be demonstrated. RNY4 pseudogenes, including RNY4P28, are non-functional copies resulting from gene duplication events of the canonical RNY4 gene. RNY4 pseudogene fragments may be detected in sequencing studies but are not known to encode functional RNAs or proteins, nor do they possess known receptor, enzyme, or regulatory activity. No drugs are documented to interact with RNY4P28, and it is not a validated biomarker or known contributor to safety concerns in therapy.
