Overview

RNA, U1 small nuclear 104, pseudogene (RNU1-104P) is a human pseudogene belonging to the U1 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) multigene family[5][1]. Unlike functional genes, pseudogenes such as RNU1-104P contain mutations or structural changes that prevent them from encoding functional protein products. The RNU1-104P locus is transcribed, and recent evidence suggests that some U1 snRNA pseudogenes can produce variant snRNAs with regulatory potential, although their exact function remains unclear[2]. In general, snRNA pseudogenes are classified as non-coding RNA elements that may participate in the regulation of gene expression, but RNU1-104P itself is not recognized as a direct therapeutic target, and no drugs, disease biomarkers, or specific safety concerns have been reported for it[1][2][5].

Biological functions

May generate variant small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) that can be transcribed and processed in vivo but do not code for proteinPotential regulatory effects through RNA-based mechanisms, such as acting as a decoy for RNA-binding proteins or microRNAs (inferred from general pseudogene function)
