Overview

RNA, U1 small nuclear 123, pseudogene (RNU1-123P) is a member of the U1 small nuclear RNA family, found in several locations in the human genome, and classified as a pseudogene because it has sequence similarity to the functional U1 snRNA gene but is typically non-coding and non-functional. Functional U1 snRNA is part of the spliceosome and critical for pre-mRNA splicing[3][4], but pseudogene members like RNU1-123P are not translated and generally lack critical sequences required for proper small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) assembly and biological activity[1][2][4]. While some U1 snRNA pseudogenes have been found to produce variant snRNAs that may participate in gene regulation[4], there is no evidence that RNU1-123P encodes a functional RNA, is productively transcribed, or plays a direct role in disease networks or therapeutic mechanisms[1][2][4]. The classification as a pseudogene means its use as a therapeutic target or disease biomarker is unsupported.
