Overview

RNU1-134P (RNA, U1 small nuclear 134, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 20 (20q13). It is assigned as one of many non-coding pseudogenes in the genome related to the U1 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. Unlike canonical U1 snRNA genes (such as RNU1-1), RNU1-134P is not known to produce a functional RNA product or contribute to the spliceosomal machinery essential for pre-mRNA splicing. Pseudogenes of this class typically arise through DNA or RNA-mediated duplication and acquire disabling mutations that prevent expression of the canonical RNA. While some U1 snRNA pseudogenes or their processed RNA products have shown low-level expression or potential regulatory roles in certain contexts, there is no evidence that RNU1-134P is functional or plays a role in disease, regulation, or therapy. It is classified primarily as part of the genomic background and is not used as a therapeutic target or biomarker.
