Overview

RNU1-146P (RNA, U1 small nuclear 146, pseudogene) is a non-coding RNA gene classified as a pseudogene, belonging to the family of U1 small nuclear RNAs which are key components of the spliceosome and essential for pre-mRNA splicing[1][2][8]. Unlike the canonical U1 snRNA genes (such as RNU1-1), RNU1-146P lacks coding potential due to sequence alterations, insertions/delletions or disrupted crucial elements, and is not known to produce functional RNA or protein products[2][8]. While most U1 pseudogenes, including RNU1-146P, have historically been considered nonfunctional, emerging research suggests that some U1 snRNA pseudogenes may be transcribed and could have regulatory roles at the RNA level, though the biological significance of RNU1-146P specifically remains unclear[2]. There is no evidence that RNU1-146P acts as a therapeutic target, is involved in disease mechanisms, or interacts with drugs.
