Overview

RNA, U1 small nuclear 15, pseudogene (RNU1-15P) is a genomic locus in humans annotated as a pseudogene of the U1 small nuclear RNA family. While the canonical U1 snRNA forms a core component of the U1 snRNP particle that mediates recognition of the 5’-splice site during nuclear pre-mRNA splicing[3], pseudogene members such as RNU1-15P lack evidence for transcriptional or functional activity and generally do not participate in splicing or gene regulation. Such pseudogenes are considered evolutionary remnants of gene duplication events and may serve as markers for genomic studies but do not encode proteins or have direct biological, therapeutic, or disease relevance[1][4]. If the intention was to refer to the functional snRNA target involved in splicing (U1 snRNA/RNU1-1), that is a biologically essential non-coding RNA involved in splice site recognition and pre-mRNA processing[2][3]. However, RNU1-15P specifically refers to a pseudogene of this family and should not be confused with active snRNA loci.
