Overview

RNA, U1 small nuclear 48, pseudogene (RNU1-48P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene of the U1 small nuclear RNA gene family[1][2]. U1 snRNAs are essential noncoding RNAs involved in the spliceosome for pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU1-48P generally contain mutations or sequence disruptions that prevent them from encoding functional U1 snRNA molecules or proteins[2][1]. However, some U1 snRNA pseudogenes are transcribed into RNA and can be recruited into ribonucleoprotein complexes, with potential, though largely uncharacterized, regulatory functions in gene expression[2]. Currently RNU1-48P is not considered a therapeutic target, does not interact with drugs or act as a biomarker, and is primarily annotated as a genomic element of uncertain function. As with other pseudogenes, its presence mainly reflects genomic evolution, and its classification as a target is likely incorrect[1][2][6].
