Unlike the canonical functional U1 small nuclear RNA genes—which are key components of the spliceosome and essential for mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells—RNU1-65P does not produce a functional RNA or protein product and is not involved in splicing or other known biological processes. As a pseudogene, it lacks protein-coding capacity and is not considered an actionable therapeutic target.
