RNU1-86P is a pseudogene derivative of the U1 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. U1 snRNA genes encode a noncoding RNA component of the spliceosome that is essential for pre-mRNA splicing, but pseudogenes like RNU1-86P are generally considered nonfunctional genetic elements because they possess sequence changes or deletions that prevent them from encoding functional snRNA molecules[1][2]. While some U1 snRNA pseudogene loci can be transcriptionally active and may, in aggregate, give rise to variant snRNAs with possible regulatory roles, the RNU1-86P locus itself has not been associated with known protein function, therapeutic targeting, disease linkage, or drug interaction[1][2][5]. Most pseudogenes are categorized as noncoding, nonfunctional remnants of genes, though recent research has challenged this assumption for some loci. It is currently not recognized as a pharmacological or therapeutic target.
