Overview

RNA, U2 small nuclear 13, pseudogene (RNU2-13P) is a processed pseudogene of the U2 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family, which is normally involved in pre-mRNA splicing within the spliceosome. Unlike the functional U2 snRNA genes, RNU2-13P does not produce a functional RNA product and is considered an inactive genomic element. Pseudogenes like RNU2-13P arise via duplication or retrotransposition and typically display high sequence similarity to their functional counterparts, but accumulate mutations and truncations rendering them non-functional. There is no evidence for a biological or therapeutic role for this pseudogene. RNU2-13P is a non-functional pseudogene of the U2 small nuclear RNA gene. It is not a protein-coding gene, not a receptor or any molecule of pharmacological interest, does not interact with drugs, and has no clinical or biomarker relevance. Its presence in the genome reflects evolutionary gene duplication and pseudogenization events.

Other names

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

No known biological function (as a pseudogene); functional U2 snRNA is involved in pre-mRNA splicing, but this copy is non-functional
04

Disease associations

None known (no disease relevance documented; pseudogenes generally do not contribute to disease unless by rare regulatory mechanisms)
