RNU2-55P (RNA, U2 small nuclear 55, pseudogene) is a *pseudogene* found in the human genome, named for its similarity to the functional U2 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. U2 snRNA is part of the spliceosome machinery that catalyzes pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes—a critical step in gene expression[2][6][8][10]. However, RNU2-55P itself is a nonfunctional copy and does not encode an active snRNA or any protein. Its sequence is retained in the genome with no current evidence for biological activity, role in disease, or therapeutic relevance[1][5][9].
